The fringe is not an applied by-the-yard trim. Rather the dress is embroidered with individual loops of silk thread in scallops. The fringe gets gradually longer from waist to hem. Can you imagine the math involved in figuring out how long the fringe should be in each row so the scallops hit the hem just right?
